Ok, I have some time to kill, and I feel like expressing this.
Some of you are going to probably strongly disagree with what I have to say, and that’s fine, we all have our perspective.
There’s been a disaster.
Ok, first things first…
Christians: the major religion in Japan is Sinto, not Christianity. If you guys want to take a second and read up on the religion, it’s based around natural forces in nature, and while they do have deities, it’s more an after thought. I understand you mean well by praying to your God, but also, if you’ve read if you’ve ever read the King James bible, they’re all going to hell anyway.
So, hey how about this, maybe stop making this about you, and your God, and come up with some practical way to show suport. Anyway, it’s not an act of God, it’s an act of geology. But, based on your religion’s logic, God caused this anyway, so praying for the clean up seems a little ironic, doesn’t it?
Oh, and for the people about to send me hate mail: I went to Catholic school my entire life. Yes, even college. I’ve studied the bible several times over. We can debate if you like, but you’ll lose.
Culture: Again, this is a tragic event, however, the geology of Japan has always had a major impact n the culture. Probably more then any other culture because of the age involved. Traditional houses in Japan were made of paper and light wood.
Why? well, one thing it’s cooler (temperature) but another is that Japan is an earthquake hotspot. You’re more likely to survive a house built like that falling on you. It’s engrained in the culture. While the current generation may not be intimately aware, the culture has tradition in it. Hence the religion (any feel a click?).
Let’s also remember (as callous as this seems on the surface) that Japan is a wealthy country, and has not asked for financial aid yet. However, there are several fundraisers with full blown websites already a’banging (most of them church related, I might add). The Red Cross is your best bet if you feel you must, but again, is this REALLY going to benefit anything, or are you just buying carbon coupons?
Really, you’ll make more of an impact giving to the countries that don’t have as much, like Chile, and Haiti that, while not in the headlines making you feel guilty, are still very much in trouble.
The Japanese are a very strong proud people. Let’s show proper support for them, and not make these problems a reflection of our fears.
I’m pretty sure people are going to hate me for this post, but just remember: When it comes to a debate of your opinion of me, or a calculable truth, I’ll take truth every time.
one correction its called Shinto , with an “h” not Sinto. but otherwise yes yes
really? what do “we” have to cope with? i don’t know about you, but i worked today. i went to work, and i did my job,...
pray because it’s all...do. I’m not trying...make this about...
